Clinton on the free market

Myrah posted a quote from Hillary Clinton on C-SPAN that everybody should see:

LAMB: There’s a quote here. I want to ask you if you agree with this. This is from Alan Arenhault, author of “The Lost City” — you put it in your book. “The unfettered free market has been the most radically disruptive force in American life in the last generation.”

CLINTON: I believe that. That’s why I put it in the book.

Hijab Pelosi

From LGF, Pelosi in Hijab, Nancy Pelosi wearing a traditional headscarf during her trip to Syria:

I have a question for those who believe Pelosi would that she’s showing respect to Syrian culture by wearing the hijab: Is a culture that forces women to cover their heads a culture that is worth respecting?

Her scarf is more than a way to fit in with the locals. This scarf stands for something, just as a pointy white head robe or a red swastika arm band stands for something. In Islamic cultures women are not considered equal to men and must cover themselves to hide their beauty. In some countries, it is a crime for a women to go out in public without wearing a hijab, burqa, or some other type of body-covering clothing. In that context the scarf Pelosi wears becomes more than a piece of clothing, it’s a statement on woman’s place in the world. Anybody who believes that a woman should be able to live her own life on principle (as opposed to something that’s practical for some people, like in the U.S. but not in the Middle East) should reject the hijab. Especially if that person is presented with a wear-the-hijab-or-don’t-bother-visiting choice, as I assume she was when she arranged her visit to Syria.
